Academic Background: Dr Kim is a PhD-trained biologist and aquatic ecologist with research experience in freshwater ecology, invasive species biology, environmental change, fisheries methods, and conservation. Her doctoral research at York University and the Dorset Environmental Science Centre examined how declining environmental calcium, food limitation, and fatty-acid availability affect the invasive zooplankter Bythotrephes longimanus in Canadian Shield lakes. She has designed and conducted field and laboratory studies and developed research protocols.

As a writer for an education publishing company in South Korea, she researched, wrote, edited, and proofread content for standardized-test textbooks and examinations. She has also prepared scientific content for freelance clients and contributed to a public summary of an international conservation action plan for the United Nations Environment Programme, translating complex science into clear language for readers.
