Christopher Akcali

Academic Background: Dr Akcali is an evolutionary ecologist interested in the evolutionary causes and consequences of adaptation and speciation. He has 10 years of experience conducting field studies and publishing work in international, high-impact journals. Dr Akcali is currently working on projects that examine the evolution of coral snake mimicry as well as the relative roles of diverse mechanisms in adaptation. He is knowledgeable in agroecology, animal science, conservation, ecology, entomology, environmental studies, evolutionary biology, forestry, herpetology, ornithology, taxonomy, and zoology.

Publishing History: Dr Akcali has authored 10 peer-reviewed papers (6 as first author) in journals including Biological Journal of the Linnean Society, Biology Letters, Evolution, Journal of Evolutionary Biology, PeerJ, Proceedings of the Royal Society B: Biological Sciences, and Trends in Ecology and Evolution. Dr Akcali has presented seminars and posters at conferences such as the Society for the Study of Evolution and the World Congress of Herpetology.

Editing and Reviewing Experience: Dr Akcali has edited over 200 ESL manuscripts. He has been a reviewer for the following journals: Ecology and Evolution, Evolutionary Ecology, Journal of Animal Ecology, Journal of Herpetology, Journal of Zoology, PLOS ONE, Proceedings of the Royal Society B: Biological Sciences, Scientific Reports, South American Journal of Herpetology, and Zoological Journal of the Linnean Society. Dr Akcali joined Edanz Group as an editor in 2020.

Writing Experience: Dr Akcali has written a book chapter on the biology of the Arizona coral snake, set to be published in 2020. He has also written several natural history notes that have been published in the journal Herpetological Review.
