Wilf Gardner

Academic Background: Dr Gardner is a biomedical neuroscientist whose research has touched on various aspects of the pathophysiology and treatment of mood disorders. His PhD thesis explored the mechanistic and therapeutic effects of deep-brain stimulation in models of depression, and his post-doctoral work focused on how sleep and circadian factors contribute to and are affected by such disorders. His work has utilized various techniques including cellular and molecular biology, genetic manipulations, stereotactic surgery, electrophysiology, calcium imaging, and histology. His broader scientific expertise and interest extend to general neuroscience and biomedicine, topics he teaches as part of an interdisciplinary English-language Bachelor's degree program at the University of Freiburg, Germany.

Publishing History: Dr Gardner has co-authored several peer-reviewed papers, including a co-first-authored article recently accepted for publication in Nature Communications. A further paper from his most recent post-doctoral work is in preparation for submission to Neuron.
